Basis for an object-oriented discrete simulation library
Abstract
The fundamental aspects of the object-oriented discrete simulation paradigm are explained, and the impacts of this approach on the user interface are examined. The design of software object libraries for simulation support is discussed, with respect to complexity management, model building, re-design, re-use, usability, and internal knowledge-based model control. The conclusions from this discussion, along with an examination of fundamental modeling functions available in some existing simulation packages, are used to propose and demonstrate a library of basic software objects for discrete simulation in industrial engineering.
