Health Status Instruments, Measurement Properties of

Abstract

Abstract In this article, we present the key measurement properties necessary for a useful health status instrument. These instruments can measure health status at a moment in time to differentiate between individuals (discriminative instruments) or they can measure change over time (evaluative instruments). We describe how investigators establish validity, responsiveness, and interpretability of a health status measure. Furthermore, we describe advantages and disadvantages of various administration methods for health status measures.
