Teaching Mechanical Ventilation: Online Resources and Simulation

Abstract

The management of mechanically ventilated patients requires experience and an understanding of available evidence. However, performing bedside measurements with the ventilator, understanding patient–ventilator interactions, and interpreting abnormal ventilator waveform graphics is what is required to become an expert. Online resources are available to improve the understanding of mechanical ventilation, and simulation has become a standard method for teaching routine and advanced mechanical ventilation strategies. This chapter will describe various resources and simulation tools that can be used to learn and to teach mechanical ventilation effectively.
