Determining the effect of Bi-Sr interactions on Si morphology in 319 Al
Abstract
The effect of Bi-Sr interaction on the Al-Si eutectic reaction using thermal analysis has been examined. By examining the relationship between Sr/Bi ratio, a relationship between eutectic temperature and Si morphology was observed. At the Sr/Bi ratios below 0.2, the Si structure was unmodified and the eutectic temperature remained high whereas at ratios between 0.2 and 0.45, the eutectic temperature drops down and the modification level of Si structure increases dramatically. The eutectic temperature remained consistent at the ratios above 0.45 and the Si structure was modified.
