Chronic pain carries with it a significant burden of illness. Patients are limited in their personal, occupational, and social activities. Furthermore, chronic pain results in secondary symptoms such as depression. Since the endocannabinoid system is intertwined with the pain pathway, there is a peaked interest in the use of cannabis for chronic pain. The current evidence shows promise of cannabis in the management of neuropathic pain, and less so for acute pain. This chapter discusses the role of cannabis as an adjunct strategy for chronic pain management and as a means of opioid sparing.
