Determination of Output Uniformity from Spiral Mandrel Dies

A mathematical model, based on the lumped parameter method applied over a finite number of control columes, was developed to simulate the flow of polymer melts through spiral mandrel dies. The simulation provides pressure, volumetric flow rates and temperature throughout the spiral mandrel flow field. Model predictions of output uniformity are shown to be in good agreement with actual commercial scale equipment performance.
