Critical Care of Burn Victims Including Inhalation Injury
Abstract
Severely burned patient survival has significantly improved over the last decades, and a major contributing factor was protocolized critical care medicine. This highly specialized critical care aspect did push the LD50 for burns to almost 90–95% TBSA burn. This chapter indicates novel insights on the critical care responses and also determines further novel treatments and novel screens from various aspects, throughout the critical care and intensive care stay. We discuss all organ-specific changes and treatments thereof. This chapter highlights the important nuances in the critical care of these patients, and places emphasis on the need for intricate support for all organ systems, in order to improve morbidity and mortality.
