End of life can be a difficult topic for all concerned. We highlighted earlier in the book the importance of planning and thinking ahead, however, this is not always possible. The end of life phase of the journey with dementia can be difficult when the preferences of the individual living with dementia have not been ascertained at an earlier point in time. This chapter documents the policy developments relating to end of life care and the directives that exist to promote living well with dementia up to the point of death. However, research suggests that the experiences of families and the person living with dementia do not always match the policy guidelines. This chapter brings attention to a difficult time in the care journey for care partners, and the importance of working in partnership to achieve quality of life up to the point of death.
