Concluding remarks

Part I of this book examined the case studies of some recurrent unpredictable events under both a qualitative and quantitative approach. The analysed events can be classified as natural events such as the case of water flows, invasive species, and landslides; and socio-economic events such as the threat to the safety of buildings, house price variations, and migration issues in response to the latest economic crisis. The section also pointed out to a critical discussion of the concept of the environmentally acceptable damage with a particular focus on the rural development policy in the EU.
