A Simple, High-Yielding Synthesis of N-t-Butoxycarbonyl α-Amino Esters: Precursors for α-Amino Aldehydes

A general one-pot, two-stage procedure is described for the preparation of the title compounds from the free amino acids in near quantitative yields.
