Porewater in coral heads: Evidence for nutrient regeneration1

Abstract

Porewater from live coral heads was extracted by centrifugation and analyzed for pH, O 2 , and nutrients. Decreased pH and O 2 concentrations and elevated nutrient concentrations are evidence for possible microbial regeneration. The stoichiometry fits a respiration model.
