McCollough Effects as Conditioned Responses: Reply to Skowbo

Abstract

Skowbo (1984) has concluded that the available evidence does not support a classical conditioning interpretation of the McCollough effect. We take exception to her characterization of the relevant literature. In fact, studies from the animal learning and contingent aftereffect literatures strongly support a Pavlovian conditioning analysis of the McCollough effect.
