Levels in 189Ir and 191Ir studied with the (p, t) reaction

Abstract

States in 189Ir and 191Ir have been populated with (p, t) reactions induced by 18 MeV protons. In both nuclei the ground states were populated with dominating L = 0 transitions, and it was found that the L = 0 strengths to excited states were ≈ 25 % and ≈ 15 % of the ground-state strengths in 189Ir and 191Ir, respectively. Thus no striking effects which could be attributed to sudden changes in deformation have been observed. The data give conclusive evidence for the 32+ [402] assignment of the ground-state rotational band in 189Ir. The 72+ γ-vibrational levels were located in both nuclei.
