Three-body force in nuclear matter

Abstract

The simplest three-body force, due to two-pion exchange, contributes only about 0.8 MeV/A to the binding energy of nuclear matter. This is to be contrasted with previous estimates of 2 MeV and 6 MeV. A proper Brueckner theory calculation was done in place of the perturbation theory employed previously.
