Convergence of gut microbiomes in myrmecophagous mammals
Abstract
Mammals have diversified into many dietary niches. Specialized myrmecophagous (ant- and termite-eating) placental mammals represent a textbook example of evolutionary convergence driven by extreme diet specialization.
