Authority: An Essential Part of Practice

Abstract

Social workers have been reluctant to acknowledge their authority because they view it as a hindrance to the helping relationship. This article distinguishes authority from power and argues that authority is congruent with social work values and practice theory and is inextricably related to the Junction of agencies and the tasks of workers.
