Medical geography in the United Kingdom, 1945-1982.
Abstract
British research in medical geography has followed two main themes: the ecology of disease and the geography of health care. Traditionally, most attention has been given to the first theme, with studies of maps of mortality leading to hypotheses about the causes of disease, and studies of the diffusion of disease. From the mid 1970s onwards, however, interest has been increasing in the spatial structure of health services, geographical patterns of inequity in health services and patterns of health service use. -R.Haynes
