Variations of MOE and MOR in loblolly pine wood

Abstract

Among the 10 years old wood of loblolly pine from 28 clones, MOE(modulus of elasticity) and MOR (modulus of rapture) had notably differences respectively at0.001 and 0.01 levels. The individual variations of MOE and MOR in a clone were mostly higher than those among the clones, which showed that the effect of genetic improvement of plantation loblolly wood properties could be better on the individuals in a clone. Among the 28 clones, number 17, 37 and 51 were better in respect to MOR. MOE and MOR of the 28 clones had linear relations, r = 0.547. MOE and MOR with air drying density had remarkable relation respectively at 0. 05 and 0.01 level.
