Chapter 9 Applications to other fields

Abstract

In this chapter, we describe some applications of the theory of start-up demonstration tests, to some other fields. As already emphasized, the criteria used by different start-up demonstration models were mainly motivated by the theory of runs and scans. This means that the models elaborated in the preceding chapters naturally provide great flexibility in problems where the process under study involves sequences of successive outcomes. In addition, start-up demonstration tests, either explicitly or implicitly have found some applications in social sciences, medical research, and statistical quality control. The main aim of this chapter is to motivate new theoretical and applied research directions by summarizing some findings from these fields and then describe how the theory of start-up demonstration tests may assist in the associated problems of interest.
