  • Abstract Rooted in colonialism, via forced patriarchal religiosity among indigenous groups, Marianismo in its contemporary form is the result of the intrinsic psychological and sociopolitical weaving of early colonialism into behaviors/values/practices considered “normal” in the present day. Subsequently, Marianismo has been portrayed as a specifically Latin American “cultural” practice and has come to denote the racialized “other.”
