AbstractRooted in colonialism, via forced patriarchal religiosity among indigenous groups, Marianismo in its contemporary form is the result of the intrinsic psychological and sociopolitical weaving of early colonialism into behaviors/values/practices considered “normal” in the present day. Subsequently, Marianismo has been portrayed as a specifically Latin American “cultural” practice and has come to denote the racialized “other.”
