Introduction: Alpha-2-macroglobulin (a2m) is a plasma glycoprotein capable of inhibiting all classes of serine proteases. Within the coagulation and fibrinolytic systems, a2m inhibits several critical factors, including thrombin, plasmin, and activated protein C.
