A 238Pu/Be Facility for in Vivo Cadmium Measurements

Abstract

Cadmium is a toxic element and, as such, exposure is regulated in the workplace. However, the possible ill effects, particularly of chronic, low-level exposure, remain ill defined. This results in continuing vigorous debate as to the appropriate levels for regulatory intervention and as to whether environmental exposure levels are such as to produce any significant health impact1. In this context, in vivo measurements of body stores are valuable as direct evidence of a person’s cumulative exposure2.
