Single crystal growth and characterization of frustrated antiferromagnet SraPb1 − aCrxGa12 − xO19

Abstract

Single crystals of SraPb1 − aCrxGa12 − xO19 with 0.43 ≤ a ≤ 0.88 and 4 ≤ x ≤ 8.07 have been grown from high temperature solutions. The solvent used was PbO-PbF2-B2O3 flux, and the soak temperature was 1360°C. The dependence of the Cr distribution coefficient and the lattice parameter on Cr concentration are presented. These crystals are frustrated antiferromagnets with a spin freezing temperature below 5 K, and with a frustration factor of about 100.
