Optimization models and simulation in acoustic warfare

Abstract

Determining the strategy how the naval ship uses acoustic jamming devices (such as decoys) to counter torpedo is one of the main problems in acoustic warfare. Mathematical models for the problem based on nonlinear optimization were presented and the MATLAB optimization toolbox was used to solve the models. The results of how the naval ship should escape and how to send decoys were obtained. This new method has advantages over the traditional Monte-Carlo method, as it needs little computation and does not heavily rely on the acoustic parameters and acoustic equations, so it has general applications.
