abstract

  • The goal of our research is to identify how the intersections of age and disability combine to produce unique systems of disadvantage across a varitey of socioeconomic indicators (housing, wealth, education, and employment), in order to create a more comprehensive picture of the challenges disabled youth face. We will be accessing data from Statistics Canada to determine differences in socioeconomic factors between youth generally, and the larger, general population, providing an intersectional analysis. Using intersectional analysis, this project aims to bring increased clarity to the complex interactions between age, disability, and various socioeconomic indicators. We need to understand the dependent relationships between oppression, poverty, housing, education, and employment in order to break the cycles that (re)produce socioeconomic inequalities, debility, and disablement.
