Self-reported dry eye symptoms in allergy patients using the disease impact questionnaire

Abstract

Using the Dry Eye Disease Impact Questionnaire (DEDIQ©*) and Ocular Surface Disease Index©* (OSDI©*), a validated instrument, this study assessed the occurrence of self-reported dry eye symptoms in 27 allergy patients. Using both questionnaires, allergy patients in this study reported having mild to severe dry eye disease. Itching, tired/fatigued eyes and dryness were the most frequently experienced and bothersome dry eye symptoms. Whether patients received samples from their healthcare provider or spent money out-of-pocket, allergy patients in this study reported using treatment for their dry eye symptoms. This study found that dry eye disease has an impact on utilisation and treatment in allergy patients.
