The Optimal Approach for Resection of Encapsulated Thymoma: Open Versus VATS

The appropriate use of video assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) in the treatment of thymoma is not clearly defined. Recently, increasing numbers of case series have reported the use of VATS in the resection of encapsulated thymomas and subsequently even in more advanced disease. These results have lead to the increasing adoption of this technique, which has not been clearly studied.
