Endometriosis and spontaneous abortion

Abstract

Despite the lack of good quality evidence in the literature, there seems to be an association between endometriosis and spontaneous abortion. The association is consistent from study to study, and treatment may reduce the risk for spontaneous abortion. Mild disease seems to have a higher risk for spontaneous abortion than do more severe categories. The mechanisms of action are likely to include corpus luteum deficiency, immunologic factors in the peritoneal fluid, and poor oocyte and embryo quality.
