abstract

  • The contribution to the electrical resistivity of ferromagnetic metals which is associated with the magnetic behavior has been studied theoretically at low temperatures. As in previous theoretical work this resistivity ρmag is assumed to be due to scattering of conduction electrons by spin waves through the s-d interaction. An expression valid for a general lattice is presented which is shown to account for the form of the temperature dependence of ρmag for Fe, Co, Ni, and Gd. However, estimates of the magnitude of the resistivity arising from this interaction indicate that it may be from one to two orders of magnitude too small to account for the experimental results.
