States in 174Lu populated by single-particle transfer reactions

Abstract

The nuclear structure of the doubly odd nucleus 174Lu has been investigated using the following four single-particle transfer reactions: {173}Yb(α, t)174Lu, 173Yb(3He, d)174Lu, 175Lu(3He, α)174Lu and 175Lu(d,t)174Lu. Beams of 24 MeV 3He particles, 28.5 MeV α-particles and 12 MeV deuterons were used. The reaction products were analysed in an Enge split-pole magnetic spectrograph. The proton transfer data have enabled the assignment of the 12−[541], 52+[402], 92−[514] and the 12−[530] proton orbitals coupled to the 52−[512] neutron in both spin triplet and singlet configurations. Strong Coriolis coupling has been observed in bands formed by the transfer of the 12−[541] and the 12−[530] protons. The neutron-transfer data have been used to confirm previous assignments of the 52−[512], 12−[521] and 32−[521] neutron orbitals coupled to the 72+[404] proton. The observation of levels populated by high-l transfers in the (3He, α) reaction has led to a revised assignment of the Kπ = 7+, 72+[633]n+ 72+[404]p rotational band. Similarly the spin-triplet Kπ = 0+ configuration of these two orbitals has also been identified.
