The maumtrasna group problem: Possible devonian rocks in murrisk, Western Ireland

Abstract

The Maumtrasna Group of coarse sandstones and conglomerates with minor acid volcanics in eastern Murrisk, which has been regarded as being part of the Ordovician succession, is seen in the light of reinterpretation and new evidence as being possibly as young as Devonian in age. Recognition of these lightly deformed rocks may be used to infer an end-Devonian age for the final pulse of Caledonian tectonism in northwestern Ireland
