CARSHAW AND MALGA IRON-FORMATION-HOSTED GOLD DEPOSITS OF THE TIMMINS AREA.

The surface geology of the Carshaw and Malga iron formations in the Timmins area, Ontario, was mapped and the underground exposure of the gold mineralization on the Carshaw property was examined in detail. The Carshaw deposit is reported to contain approximately 167,000 tons at 6 g/ton Au between surface and 200 feet, whereas the Malga deposit contains approximately 80,000 tons grading 10. 7 g/ton. The gold mineralization of the banded iron formations is epigenetic and resulted from sulfurization of iron-rich mesobands.
