Numerical simulation of transient turbulent buoyant flows.
Abstract
A general purpose computer code, FONS-TURB, has been developed for the analysis of multi-dimesional transient turbulent buoyant flows. The model is based upon the closure of the time averaged conservation equations for natural convection using a two equation K-EPSILON model of turbulence. The complete set of the conservation equations is solved using a finite difference scheme based on a simplified marker and cell technique. The code has been used to simulate air circulation in two dimensional square enclosure with vertical walls held at different constant temperatures. Good quantitative and qualitative agreement was obtained with published numerical and experimental data. (A)
