Ladle eye detection using multivariate image analysis

A useful semi-empirical relationship between operating conditions and ladle eye size was developed through a recent study at McMaster University. In addition, a procedure for monitoring the dynamic behavior of molten slag using a multivariate image analysis procedure was developed as well. The capability of the procedure was demonstrated using image data taken from steelmaking ladle. Using this procedure, the dynamic slag behavior, such as bare metal area and crusty slag, can be detected and quantified.
