Effects of esophageal stimulation in healthy subjects

Abstract

The esophagus in healthy volunteers was stimulated through short electrical pulses and responses were recorded in the form of cortical evoked potentials (EPs) and PS/HRV. An odd-ball paradigm was set up to record cognitive P300 evoked potentials. All volunteers were in the age group 20 to 30 years. Analysis of the results confirm that it is possible to elicit cortical EPs, cognitive P300 EPs to electrical stimulation of the esophagus in control subjects and PS/HRV can be used to measure its different response.
