Low-cost mass transfer experiments. Part 6. Determination of vapor diffusion coefficient

Abstract

An experiment was performed to determine the binary diffusion coefficients for vapor-gas systems in which the vapor is generated by the evaporation of a pure volatile liquid and the gas is air. Results show that the rate of fall in liquid level can be used to determine the diffusion coefficient fairly accurately for such vapor-gas systems. Experimental diffusion coefficients are within ±10% of the predicted values but turbulence in the experimental area is found to affect the precision of the results.
