Low-cost experiments in mass transfer: Part 8. Absorption of carbon dioxide from a single bubble

Abstract

An experiment of a cylindrical bubble of carbon dioxide held stationary in a downflow of water in a vertical tube was conducted to analyze the gas-liquid contact for mass transfer purposes. The mass transfer rate was calculated from the measured rate at which the bubble volume decreases with time. Results indicated that transport phenomena were helpful in understanding the basic mechanism of mass transfer and obtaining an estimate of mass transfer rates from first principles.
