abstract

  • AbstractA novel type of extraction column has been constructed in which liquid pulsations are produced without the need for any mechanical moving parts. The factors governing the frequency and amplitude of the pulsations are discussed briefly. The effects of pulsation upon the extraction of acetic acid from kerosene by water in a packed column have been measured. The pulsations increase the number of transfer units by as much as threefold, a result similar to the observations of previous workers who used conventional pulsators having moving parts.
