Computer simulation and experiments of flow distribution in flat sheet dies

Abstract

Abstract The Control Volume Method is used in a two‐dimensional computer software package to simulate three‐dimensional nonisothermal flows of polymer melts through flat sheet dies. The results of the simulation are compared to experiments performed with different materials on an experimental die, and to a three‐dimensional simulation using the Finite Element Method. This comparison shows that for the case of negligible extensional effects, the two‐dimensional package performs reasonably well.
