  • AbstractSeveral aspects associated with the identification and direct digital stochastic control of a steam‐jacketed continuous stirred tank process are investigated. Using data collected under closed‐loop conditions by an on‐line mini‐computer, statistical modelling procedures are used to identify, fit and check a discrete dynamic‐stochastic model for the process and its disturbances. Based on these models an optimal stochastic feedback controller is implemented using the minicomputer. A practical modification of this optimal controller is suggested and the modified stochastic controller is implemented and its performance is evaluated.
