Effect of two-pion-exchange three-body force in triton

Abstract

The contribution of the two-pion-exchange three-body force to the binding energy of the triton is examined. An effective two-body force due to the three-body force in the triton is derived, and used in combination with the Hamada-Johnston two-body force. The results depend on the pionic form factor which was introduced in deriving the three-body force. Without the form factor, the contribution to the triton binding energy is found to be about 1 MeV attraction. Using the same form factors as were used in similar calculations for nuclear matter, however, the contribution is reduced to about 0.3 MeV attraction.
