Apply six sigma for process improvement and problem-solving

Abstract

Six Sigma is a management strategy that combines a variety of statistical and process tools to provide a framework for continuous improvement, optimization, and problem-solving. Six Sigma is usually implemented at the corporate level by specially trained and certified experts referred to as Green Belts and Black Belts. Most large organizations establish a company-wide Six Sigma group and train their own practitioners. Many companies in the chemical and related industries have embraced Six Sigma and routinely use it in their operations. Because chemical engineers are data-driven, we are well-suited to practicing Six Sigma. Non-value-added analysis is a basic methodology to identify process steps and process times that do not yield any positive effect and do not add value to the process or product.
