The neutralization—reionization mass spectrum of C+60

Abstract

Xenon, cyclopropane, trimethylamine and N,N-dimethylamine were used as target gases for the neutralization of 8 keV translational energy C+60 (IE = 7.60 eV) and CH2OH+ (IE = 7.56 eV) ions. The neutralization efficiency of CH2OH+ is weakly dependent on the ionization energy (IE) of the target gas but C+60 could only be conveniently neutralized using trimethylamine and N,N-dimethylamine, i.e. with target gases whose IEs are close to that of the C60 molecule.
