Abstract

Electrification in transportation is an evolving paradigm shift toward sustainability. Electrified vehicles are more environmental friendly than conventional vehicles and have better performance. They are also smarter, more efficient, more reliable, and safer. Enabling technologies include power electronics, electric motor drives, electric machines, electro-mechanical systems, energy storage systems, reliable electronics and sensors, robust controllers, and embedded software. These technologies are applied to both propulsion and nonpropulsion systems. Electrified vehicles include more electric vehicles (MEVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and electric vehicles (EVs).
