Abstract
Terrestrial free-space optical links are corrupted by both turbulence and misalignment losses. It is common practice to model turbulence by a gamma-gamma distribution and misalignments by a Rayleigh distribution, where the underlying assumption is that the jitter in vertical and horizontal directions is the same.
