Direct modulation of multimode fiber Bragg grating external cavity lasers

Abstract

Abstract Direct modulation characteristics have been investigated for a Fabry‐Perot laser diode coupled with a multimode fiber Bragg grating.Large signal modulation at 2.5 Gb/s with none‐return‐to‐zero format has been demonstrated for the 2‐cm long multimode fiber Bragg grating external cavity laser. By using a short external cavity of about 7.5 mm, small‐signal frequency responses larger than 8 GHz are achieved. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
