Noise suppression using dispersion decreasing fibers for RZ transmission systems

Abstract

A new technique is proposed for noise suppression in return-to-zero systems. The nonlinear propagation in dispersion decreasing fiber (DDF) combined with narrow-band optical and/or electrical filters suppresses noise superposed on signal. As a result, Q-factor is improved by about 2.5 dB as compared to the case without DDF.
