Spectral slope discrimination in infancy: Sensitivity to socially important timbres

Abstract

Spectral slope, the linear component of the spectral envelope, affects sound quality or timbre, and is important for object identification, speech discrimination, voice recognition, and interpreting vocal expressions of emotion.
