Transient Ostwald ripening in systems with a concentration dependent diffusivity. II. Non-zero volume fractions

Abstract

A particle growth rate is derived for coarsening systems with a small volume fraction of second phase in which the diffusion coefficient varies linearly with composition. With the growth rate incorporated into a previously published numerical code, the time evolution of the average particle radius, the number density of precipitates and the scaled particle size distribution has been monitored for various final volume fractions. The results suggest that the effects of a concentration dependent diffusivity are more pronounced at lower volume fractions.
