  • AbstractThe (κ‐ϵ) turbulence closure model has become a widely used means of predicting turbulent fluid flows. In this paper the turbulent radial jet, the round jet and the plane jet are calculated in their similarity regions using various versions of the (κ‐ϵ) model to determine which is the most satisfactory for both plane and axisymmetric flows. The most general predictions were obtained using a model which contained additional terms to account for the effect of irrotational strains on the production of turbulence energy. Additionally, detailed mean velocity profiles and turbulence kinetic energy profiles of the radial jet are compared to the available experimental data.
